Billericay ‘under attack’ – campaigners highlight potential housing onslaught

Hundreds of new houses are proposed for Billericay

It might be scant consolation to its residents that their town has not featured before on these pages, but a campaign group is highlighting how Billericay is “under attack” from developers.
The Billericay Action Group website shows how they “are targeting the London Road and Mountnessing Road area” of town, while another site in the south-west between Laindon Road and Frithwood Lane has also “come into the frame”.
BAG has been urging locals to object to four unwelcome planning applications (another is thought to be imminent), which all relate to Green Belt land. Among them is a scheme from Redrow for 480 properties north of London Road that BAG says will “fill the gap” between the town and Havering’s Grove and a proposal from Gleeson Land for 250 houses between Laindon Road and and Frithwood Lane.
Writing on Facebook, BAG says: “We have now finally caught up with all current Green Belt planning applications.
“The consultation windows are now closed.
“It could be a couple of months until they get to the planning committee and then we’ll need your help again. We need good resident turn out at the meetings and a few people prepared to speak. But more on that nearer the time.”
