Blackthorn… if only the weather was just as glorious!

It’s one of the joys of spring – and CPRE Essex’s John Bloxsome has captured the glory of blackthorn with these two delightful images of a particularly tall stand of it in our county.
John tells us: “The blackthorn has been amazingly floriferous in Essex this year – and we have been having the blackthorn winter to go with it over the past week!”
A blackthorn winter is said to occur if the weather is still cold when this shrubby tree flowers… so no argument about that this spring!
As ever, if you would like to contribute a picture or two – or pretty much anything for that matter – to our website, please email dmairs@cpre-essex.org.uk
