It’s a pigeon paradise

Who doesn’t love a pigeon?
If nothing else, you have to admire the birds’ eye for an easy meal – it’s one of the reasons they are so successful (some species, at any rate).
The woodpigeon is of course a familiar sight in the Essex countryside (too familiar, some farmers might say) and here photographer Gordon Ridgewell shares some of their, ahem, charm.
“In the autumn I sent in a picture of a companion crop to protect the rape. The buckwheat did a really good job and left a nice juicy crop that a few thousand woodpigeons have found to feed on.”
Bless ’em!
