Villagers’ chain reaction to Coggeshall quarry plans

More than 200 villagers joined the protest

More than 200 villagers formed a human chain along the Essex Way to demonstrate widespread opposition to a 400-acre quarry being proposed for inclusion in Essex County Council’s Replacement Minerals Local Plan. The footprint of the quarry would be as big as the whole of Coggeshall itself.
Opponents, who made their protest on Saturday, March 9, fear it would change the landscape forever, destroy natural habitats, displace wildlife and have a seriously adverse impact on Coggeshall’s historic buildings and heritage overall.
Consultation on this proposal will close at 5pm on Tuesday, April 9. People must respond quickly to have their views considered.
Coggeshall Residents Against the Quarry [CRAQ] said: “Today we showed just how unpopular this proposed site is with residents. The Consultation gives us an opportunity to express our views and prevent approval of the quarry by ECC.’’
