Chelmsford targeted for another 3,500 homes in ‘garden community’

The proposed development would form part of Chelmsford Garden Community

The expansion of Chelmsford, it would seem, has no bounds.
The city has hosted tremendous housing growth in recent years and now there is a proposal for 3,500 more.
The scheme, to the north-east of the city, has been submitted by Countryside and, if approved, will comprise part of Chelmsford Garden Community, which has already been included in the council’s Local Plan. In all, the garden community could enlarge to 10,000 new homes.
Countryside submitted its outline planning application for the mixed-use development on Monday, October 23, with the proposed 3,500 new homes forming three villages.
The developer hopes to start work on the scheme in 2025 and anticipates building to last 15 years.
